Wisdom Tooth Extraction
Expert and safe surgical care
At Jehangir Oracare Dental Centre, we understand that wisdom teeth can be a source of discomfort and concern. These third molars often erupt later in life and can sometimes cause problems when they don't have enough space to come in properly. If you're experiencing pain, swelling, or other issues related to your wisdom teeth, wisdom tooth extraction may be the recommended course of action.
Wisdom teeth are the four permanent molars that typically erupt between the ages of 17 and 25. However, not everyone develops wisdom teeth, and sometimes they become “impacted”, meaning they are unable to erupt fully due to lack of space in the jaw. This impaction can lead to a variety of problems, such as pain and swelling in the gums, infection, damage to surrounding teeth, or crowding.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction FAQs
Not everyone needs their wisdom teeth removed. However, wisdom teeth can cause problems if they erupt improperly or become impacted (stuck in the jawbone). Signs that removal may be necessary include pain, swelling, difficulty chewing, or damage to neighboring teeth. Your oral surgeon will examine your wisdom teeth and X-rays to determine if removal is the best course of action.
You won't feel any pain during the wisdom tooth removal itself. Your oral surgeon will use local anesthesia to numb the area around the wisdom teeth. You may feel some pressure or pushing during the procedure, but you shouldn't feel any pain.
Wisdom tooth removal is typically performed under local anesthesia or sedation to minimize discomfort. Your oral surgeon will make an incision in the gum tissue and may need to remove some bone to access the wisdom tooth. Once the tooth is exposed, it will be carefully removed. Stitches may be used to close the incision.
Some swelling, discomfort, and bleeding are normal after wisdom tooth removal. Your oral surgeon will provide you with specific instructions for pain management, including medication and home care for the extraction site. It's important to follow these instructions carefully to promote healing and prevent infection.
